As spring break approaches, School Without Walls students are eagerly making plans to take a well-deserved break from their busy academic schedules. Whether traveling, volunteering, working, doing homework or simply unwinding at home, students are looking forward to a much needed break.
For many students, spring break is an opportunity to explore new places. Some are headed to sunny destinations like Gideon Ratke (‘25) who is “excited to relax on the beach in Jamaica.” Eva Ruf (‘28) is also excited as she is “going to explore Greece with my sister, mom and grandma!” The baseball team is also traveling as they are headed down to Myrtle Beach where they will be practicing and gearing up for the end of the season. Philip Wheeler (‘25) shared, “I’m excited for this trip since it’s my last one. It’s always a great chance for our team to get better and have some fun team bonding.”
Some seniors are taking a different approach, Jasmin Goodwin (‘25) said, “I’m going to tour some of the colleges I’ve gotten into to try and decide where I want to go.” Juniors are also already preparing for college Sadie Feldman (‘26) shared, “I’m excited to start the college process and tour some schools during spring break.” A lot of seniors are gearing up for the end of the year, Sasha Bryer-Gottesman (‘25) said, “my AP Research is due April 30th so I will be working on it right up to the deadline–especially during spring break.”
The sophomores will also be getting ready for their first AP, Mia Ferris-Artiga (‘27) comments, “I’m planning on studying for AP World since it’s coming up pretty soon and I want to be prepared for my first AP test.”
Other students are taking advantage of the break to knock out some community service hours. Eloise Haun (‘26) shared, “I really want to be done with my community service by the end of the year so I’m going to try and get a lot of hours.” Similarly, other students are going to be working.
For those staying close to home, spring break offers a great chance to recharge. Many students are ready to catch up on sleep, binge their favorite shows and spend time with friends. Pablo Marin Hormigo (‘26) shared, “I love being in DC for school breaks! I get to sleep in, play soccer with my friends, and watch as much TV as I want. It’s great.” DC also has a lot to offer and students are taking advantage of its activities. Haun continued, “I’m really excited to stay in DC and spend time with friends on the National mall. I also want to go to as many museums as possible before I leave for college!”
No matter how students choose to spend their break, everyone is looking forward to a week of relaxation, exploration, and fun before returning for the final stretch of the school year.
