Junior Class Council Ramps Up Spring Fling Preparations

It’s almost time for Walls students to trade textbooks for tuxedos, stresses for dresses, and essays for unforgettable evenings. Spring Fling is just around the corner, and while most students are busy thinking about what to wear, the planning team is working to make sure it’s a night to remember.

Though Spring Fling lasts only one night, planning has been underway since the start of the school year. “A lot of it is fundraising because it is pretty expensive,” shared Declan Chada (‘26), a member of the Class of 2026 Class Council, which is responsible for organizing the event. Council members oversee everything from decorations to logistics, and with so many moving parts, it takes months of coordination to pull it all together.

Choosing a theme is one of the most difficult—and often controversial—parts of the process. With nearly fifteen ideas under consideration, the juniors have been debating which will set the perfect mood for the night. “Potential options I’ve heard include Mamma Mia, Y2K, Tangled, and many more,” Chada explained. To ensure student input, the planning team sent out a school-wide survey. Juniors voted among the themes of Mamma Mia, Y2K, Tangled, and Love Island. With the final decision approaching, anticipation is at an all-time high.

One of the biggest challenges has been raising enough money to fund the event. Hosting a school-wide dance isn’t cheap, and the junior class has been working hard to cover the costs. From traditional bake sales to selling pajama pants like last year, every dollar counts. However, frustration has grown as many students feel their class sponsors have not been as supportive as expected regarding fundraising efforts. "From what I’ve heard,"  said a junior who spoke on the condition of anonymity, “the sponsors have yet to secure the funds from the last Double Good fundraiser that the junior class won. I mean, I hope everything goes well, but it doesn’t sound like it is. Our class is very broke.”

Like last year’s event, planned by the Class of 2025, the dance will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. While the location is familiar, the juniors are determined to put their own spin on it. With so much effort happening behind the scenes, Spring Fling 2025 is shaping up to be a night to remember. Whether you’re eager to find out the theme or just excited to take a break from schoolwork, the juniors are working to ensure an exceptional event.
